Electrical Repair
What! My Horn Needs A Computer?
Yup! No kidding. Your car’s horn works through a computer. That’s the new reality. Motor Works excels at automotive electrical, electronics and computer work. Other shops refer their more difficult problems to us.
First, A Little History
1970 saw the start of my professional career as an automotive technician. I soon found anything technical captured my interest. This included diagnosis, driveability work, carburetion, and electrical repairs. I honed my craft over the next 14 years.
In 1984 I started Motor Works to provide automotive service to DeKalb and Northern Illinois. No sooner were our doors open, than cars with computers started pouring in.
At first computers were limited to engine control. Transmission control soon followed. Then, body control after that. Today, between 50 and 100 computers control almost every electrical circuit on a car. Yes, that includes your horn.
Schools and Tools
Constant training allows Motor Works staff to be at the “top of their game” when it comes to automotive electrical, electronics and computers. We have a huge investment in tools, not to mention a dozen scopes and computer scanners. These allow us to diagnose circuits and talk to the computers on any car. Equally important, three of our technicians are ASE Master Certified Specialists.
