Coolant Service
A Major Part Of Our Business Since We Opened
Since March, 1984, Motor Works has been serving the DeKalb and Northern Illinois public. We are a one-stop-shop offering every conceivable automotive service. A critical part of that commitment is cooling system repair and maintenance. Towards that end, we have three ASE Master Certified Specialists on staff.
What’s The Big Deal With Cooling Systems?
I’m so glad you asked. Put simply, engines run hot enough to melt the metal they are made from. Without a cooling system, a motor will become a boat anchor in minutes. Don’t worry, I’m not going into massive detail on water pumps, radiators, thermostats and the rest. Motor Works excels at repairs in all these areas. I do need to touch on two critical points however.
Critical Point 1: Frequent Inspection Can Save You Big $$$
Remember the boat anchor reference. If we perform your regular oil changes, the cooling system gets inspected every time. We look for engine killers like soft hoses, worn belts, leaky radiators, dirty coolant, and more. If caught in time, you can “Just Say No To Boat Anchors!”
Critical Point 2: Coolant - The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly!
Not long ago the staff went to a four hour coolants class. We have learned a lot so you don’t have to. Here’s the short version:
A) Flush your coolant every two years. It develops acids, rust and sediments that eat away expensive internal engine parts.
B) Only use coolant with the correct chemical composition for your engine. Over time the wrong coolant will allow catastrophic internal damage. As an example, Motor Works stocks six different coolants for vehicles produced before 2010. After that, the required stocking doubles.
