Clutches / Driveline / 4x4 Repair
A Major Part Of Our Business Since We Opened
Motor Works has been serving their DeKalb and Northern Illinois customers since 1984; keeping them safe and on the road. We are a one-stop-shop offering every conceivable automotive service. An important part of that commitment is offering clutch, driveline and 4x4 repairs and service. We have three ASE Master Certified Specialists on staff.
Propulsion Inc.
Power windows and windshield wipers sit at rest for 99% of their life. It’s an easy job. Clutches, drivelines and 4x4 systems don’t have that luxury. They work hard, they work all the time, and they can’t help but wear out and break. We excel at these repairs. In fact, Motor Works’ building was purchased in 1984 from a failed four wheel drive shop along with some of their inventory.
The 4x4 From Hell
Modern four wheel drive systems can be wickedly complicated. A 4x4 Toyota Tacoma Pickup has two actuating motors, a three position selector switch, and eight proving switches all feeding information to a computer. The switches must all be synchronized in order for the system to work. We recently spent three days on one of these trucks, correcting dozens of its 4x4 electronic problems. YIKES!
Our Technical Support Service, Identifix, helped us with the final synchronization on our Tacoma project. Their technicians were so impressed with some of the new techniques we developed in working on this problem, they asked us to write a technical paper on our findings. Twelve pages and ten photographs later, Identifix sent us the following e-mail: “That was really great info. I’ll pass it along to the rest of the Asian team. I can’t thank you enough for the time you took to write that and take the pictures. Thanks again!”
