Our Entire Classic Car Division Started Here
DeKalb and Northern Illinois saw Motor Works open its doors in March, 1984. One of the first vehicles to roll through those doors was a gorgeous Red MGA. That single car started a love affair and indeed, an entire Motor Works division, devoted to Classic Cars.
The public soon learned Classic Cars and MG’s in particular received an open arm welcome at our new shop. And in they came. Cars and trucks of every description:
- American Muscle Cars, Classic Trucks, and beautiful old sedans
- 60’s and 70’s VW’s and Mercedes,
- Italian Sportsters Fiat and Alpha Romeo
- British Classics including Rolls Royce, Bentley, Jaguar, and Triumph
- And of course, MG after MG. Then, even more MG’s. Oh, and did I mention MG’s? (Smile!)
The Owners Bites The Bullet
I succumbed to the inevitable and bought a lovely 1981 MGB. Many a warm, moonlit evening was spent in that car; top down with my wife at my side. But eventually the time demands of business and family forced the car to sit idle for years. With a heavy heart I found my adored MGB a new home.
And what a home it was. The car went to a dear friend and customer of the shop. Within days he and I would plan a “gonzo” “hot-rodding” of the engine. The finished product would be near legendary. Please see The Good Stuff at the end of this article.
The Book
Over the years, I avidly chronicled many of our repairs and restorations. Eventually I would write and publish a really neat e-Book on MG Repairs and Restorations. Full of great stories, humor, and automotive drama, this book is available free of charge on our website. Please see The Good Stuff at the end of this article.
Join The Club
Several years ago we started to get MG customers from Chicago. One customer turned out to be a member of the Chicagoland MG Club. He was so pleased with our workmanship he entered our name in the Club’s Approved Repair Site Registry. Other members followed.
Motor Works was so honored we joined the Club. Shortly thereafter I gave an hour’s presentation on our MG e-Book to a Club meeting. We started to run ads in their monthly magazine Driveline. And our MG business doubled! YIKES!
